Our Philosophy
Faith-Grounded Counseling for Individuals, Couples, & Families
Anchor Counseling & Consulting grounds its practice in the truths of the Christian Bible, particularly those scriptures that bear on our relationships with God and one another. We combine professional counseling techniques with scriptural principles to offer a genuinely integrated approach to mental health. Faith shapes how we work, but we don’t impose our beliefs on anyone. We meet every client where they are.
See to it that no one misses the grace of God… Hebrews 12:15
Christian counseling is available for clients who want their spiritual beliefs woven into the conversation. Clients who prefer a traditional clinical approach receive exactly the same professional care and respect. Everyone who walks through our door is welcomed regardless of background or belief system.
We work with individuals, couples, adolescents, and families throughout Bucks County. Call 215-860-2607 or contact us online to schedule your first appointment.
Our Approach to Counseling
Anchor Counseling & Consulting uses solution-focused counseling techniques to help individuals and families reach their goals. Solution-focused counseling is a goal-directed approach that centers on what you want to achieve rather than an extended analysis of what went wrong. Sessions are practical and forward-looking, helping you identify clear steps and recognize your own capacity for change.
A hallmark of our approach is the strengths-based model: Solution-focused work sets the direction, strengths-based counseling supplies the foundation, and we draw on what you already bring into the process. Sessions help you identify personal and family strengths that enrich relationships, enable greater fulfillment, and build a clearer understanding of yourself and the people around you. Counseling plans are individualized, accounting for each person’s history, goals, and preferences rather than a one-size-fits-all model.
Trauma-informed care is also part of how we work. For clients processing difficult past experiences, our therapists move at a pace that respects your comfort level, helping you regain stability and confidence without re-traumatization. Whether the concern is anxiety, relational conflict, parenting stress, or unresolved pain from earlier in life, the approach is calibrated to the person in front of us, not a preset protocol.
We’ve found that involving multiple family members strengthens the family counseling experience and contributes to lasting progress. We encourage spouses, children, and significant others to join the counseling process, attending sessions together and becoming active participants in the work. Our counselors have helped people heal from past hurts and build better relationships by keeping those family bonds at the center of treatment.
The Clinicians Behind the Practice
Anchor Counseling & Consulting is built on the combined disciplines of two licensed clinicians. John Tobey, MA, EdS, LPC, NCC, earned his first master’s degree in counseling from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and a second in marriage and family therapy from The College of New Jersey, along with an EdS in counseling. His training spans Christian theology, counseling, and marriage and family therapy, and he brings more than 16 years of experience in the mental health field to each session.
Stephanie Tobey, MSW, LCSW, holds a master’s degree in social work from the University of Pennsylvania. Her career has included clinical roles at the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania and at Friends Hospital in Philadelphia, as well as serving as director of wraparound services at Lenape Valley Foundation in Doylestown. She currently serves on the Advisory Board for the Social Work Department at Cairn University (formerly Philadelphia Biblical University) and provides clinical supervision for clinicians pursuing licensure as professional social workers.
Together, their training in social work, counseling, Christian theology, and marriage and family therapy gives this practice a depth of clinical grounding that’s uncommon in a single Bucks County office. You can learn more about each clinician on our About Us page.

Do I have to share your faith to receive counseling at Anchor Counseling & Consulting?
No. Anchor Counseling & Consulting welcomes clients from all backgrounds and belief systems. Christian counseling is available for those who want their spiritual beliefs included in the conversation, but it’s entirely optional. Clients who prefer a traditional clinical approach receive the same professional care and respect. We meet every person where they are, without imposing any particular perspective.
-
What does faith-integrated counseling actually look like in a session?
John Tobey’s graduate training spans Christian theology, licensed professional counseling, and marriage and family therapy, which is the clinical foundation for how faith integration is practiced at Anchor Counseling & Consulting. In a session, that may look like exploring emotional challenges through a biblical perspective, discussing spiritual concerns that affect relationships or personal decisions, or reflecting on faith practices that support emotional resilience. It combines licensed clinical methods with your spiritual framework as a resource for insight, not as a prescription, and it’s distinct from pastoral counseling: your clinician remains bound by professional ethical standards throughout. Clients who prefer a clinical approach without faith integration receive the same quality of care.
-
What is solution-focused counseling, and how does it differ from traditional therapy?
Solution-focused counseling is a goal-directed approach that centers on what you want to achieve rather than an extended analysis of what went wrong. Sessions tend to be practical and forward-looking, helping you identify small, concrete steps toward your goals and recognize your own capacity for change. It’s often used alongside other approaches, such as trauma-informed care or strengths-based methods, rather than as a standalone model.
-
Does Anchor Counseling & Consulting offer counseling for both individuals and families?

Services include individual counseling, marriage and couples counseling, adolescent support, trauma-informed care, and faith-integrated counseling.
